Our Solar Technician program provides students with a broad knowledge of solar installation, systems, and maintenance necessary to gain employment as a solar energy technician.
Before we tell you about what our solar technician program entails, let's talk about why solar energy is a great field to get into. According to Enervy.gov, solar energy is the most abundant energy resource on Earth.
The amount of sunlight that reaches the Earth in an hour and a half is enough to handle the entire world's energy consumption for a full year. Solar energy can be used to generate electricity or be stored in batteries or thermal storage.
At PCI, our solar energy technician program will thoroughly prepare you for the field. You will be able to identify photovoltaic applications, advantages and safety hazards associated with PV installations, install a simple grid-connected PV system, and more! Trust us, very few people know what any of that means.. But you will!
This program includes training and testing for certifications in OSHA-10; CPR, and First Aid; and North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Associate certifications for both Photovoltaic and Solar Heating.
Job titles that our graduates can apply for include: Photovoltaic Installer (PV Installer), Solar Thermal (ST) Technician, Solar Installer, Solar Installer Technician, Solar Photovoltaic Installer (Solar PV Installer), Solar Technician, Solar Heating Technician.
At the core of this intensive and challenging capstone course is an 80‐hour boot camp in Kansas City, Missouri. This time provides a hands-on review of program learning objectives, the opportunity to learn and practice program competencies, and connect with your classmates and instructors.
