Your Helping Hand at Pinnacle Career Institute

Being a student is difficult. Being a student while juggling class, work, family, or a global pandemic can feel impossible. When times get tough, don’t quit! Contact your student services coordinator.

Student services coordinators can wear many different hats, but our main role is to support students throughout their class and help them make it to graduation. Working alongside students as they face whatever challenges come their way, an SSC is a resource that students can lean on for help.

My name is Jackie Laughlin and I am the student services coordinator at Pinnacle Career Institute. The first way that I usually introduce my role to a new student is to tell them, “If you aren’t sure who to call, call me! If I don’t know the answer, I will know someone that does.”

As your SSC, I am one part of a web of support for the students at PCI. Below are 5 of the most common ways I can support you as a student:

  1. Technology assistance. Whether it is a small question with your Canvas classroom, or if you are struggling to use your electronic device, I can talk you through some problem-solving solutions specific to you and your device, offering more advice than “have you tried turning it off and back on again?” I can help you learn how to utilize Google Docs, Word, PowerPoint, or your web browser. We can even set up a Zoom meeting! Need access to WiFi? I can help you locate some near you.
  2. Classroom help. Feeling overwhelmed? I can help you navigate your class page, stay organized, create a study plan, and get in contact with your instructor.
  3. Life-event support. I am here to listen if you are experiencing something in your life that is preventing you from completing work on time or making it to class, such as health issues or a family crisis. I can help research transportation, childcare, or housing options.
  4. Motivation. You don’t have to do it all alone. I can help you get started, build confidence, and get ready to tackle your coursework.
  5. Celebration. You deserve to celebrate your successes! I hand out awards for attendance and participation each module, as well as send out a Pinnacle Post newsletter every other week highlighting our student life!

Your SSC can be as helpful as you make him or her! All it takes is one call or email to get the conversation started.  Want to learn more? Check out the Student Services page here.
